Why does my camera often show offline?

A. If your phone and camera are on the same WiFi network but the camera shows offline, you need to check both the camera's WiFi hardware and the strength of the WiFi signal at the camera's location.
To check the camera's WiFi hardware, a quick method is to place the camera about 9 feet away from the router, with no large obstacles blocking their connection. If the camera still shows offline, it may indicate an issue with the camera's WiFi hardware. In that case, we can provide a replacement.
To assess if the WiFi signal at the camera's location is strong enough, place your phone very close to where the camera is positioned and then use your phone's browser to visit https://librespeed.org/. Follow the prompts on the page to begin testing and pay attention to results such as Jitter, Ping, and Upload speed. If Ping is greater than 150ms, Jitter exceeds 20ms, or Upload speed is below 1mbps, then this location requires a stronger WiFi signal.

B. If the camera shows offline when you are away from home, follow these troubleshooting steps:
  1. Access the camera settings to see if you can open them.
A. Out of Power: If the device runs out of power, it will be offline.
On iPhone, the device should prompt " device has no power, please charge".
On Android, there might be no prompt. You need to check if the device runs out of power manually.

B. The device has power but offline: go to step 2 to check the mobile data.

  1. Check if the app has permission to use mobile data.
-》Operation:
A. iPhone(IOS): Go to phone settings -->scrow down to App list, find "KinetCam" --> tap "Wireless Data", check if it selected "WLAN & Cellular Data".
If not, select "WLAN & Cellular Data" and go back to the camera to switch it off and on again, the device should be online.

B. Android: Go to phone settings --> find "Apps & notification" -->find "KinetCam", tap it to check the details --> Tap "Mobile data & Wi-Fi", confirm if the mobile data is enabled.
If not, enable it and go back to the camera to switch it off and on again, the device should be online.

  1. Place the camera about 9 feet away from the router to see if it still shows as offline.
If mobile data permission is OK, the camera still shows offline near the router, it may indicate an issue with the camera's WiFi hardware. In that case, we can provide a replacement.
